Effective training, no fuss.

Implementing privacy compliance training is easy with our assessment and reporting tools.

Protecting the privacy of the personal information you hold is essential.

Our privacy training can help your staff understand their legal obligations, to maintain the trust of your clients and stakeholders, and the reputation of your agency.

Co-designed by privacy and L&D experts with over 20 years’ experience, and with a fresh contemporary design, our training is engaging and effective – because we know what works.

If you want to enrol multiple users from the one organisation, and benefit from regular reporting back on staff progress, please see our Privacy Compliance Training page for more details, including branding, customisation, hosting and monitoring options.

About this module

What this module covers

This module will provide you with an overall awareness of your legal obligations under the Victorian privacy laws.

On completion of this module, you will understand:

  • the meaning of privacy, and why it matters to your organisation
  • the meaning of ‘personal information’ and ‘health information’
  • the scope of the privacy laws in Victoria (the Privacy and Data Protection Act, and the Health Records Act), and their interaction with the FOI Act and the Victorian Charter of Human Rights
  • what the privacy principles say, and
  • how they apply in practice.

Why this module is important

Protecting the privacy of the personal information you hold is part-and-parcel of good public administration.  This module will help you understand your legal obligations, and maintain the trust of your clients – and the reputation of your organisation.

Who this module is for

All members of staff, at any Victorian public sector organisation regulated by the Privacy and Data Protection Act.  This includes State government departments and statutory authorities, State-owned corporations, local councils, and public universities in Victoria.  It also includes contracted service providers to those organisations.

(If you are from an entity regulated by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), such as federal government agencies, non-profits and businesses around Australia, please instead see our Privacy Act Compliance Training.  We also have modules for NSW, Queensland and WA public sector agencies.)

Our Privacy Awareness Training module provides a solid basis for anyone who needs to understand privacy and the importance of protecting privacy in the course of their work.  This module can work as an induction program for new staff, or as a refresher module as part of ongoing staff training.

For someone new to the privacy profession, this module will also work as a starting point from which to build your privacy expertise.  The next step for privacy professionals – and indeed other professionals with an interest in the area, such as legal, information security, risk and compliance professionals – is to undertake one or more of our specialised eLearning modules and/or access our other resources on specific privacy topics.

Terms of service for online purchase

$150 + GST for 28 days access per user.

As a guide, this module takes around 45 minutes to complete.

This is the online purchase, pay-per-user option, which does not include our new reporting tool.  See here if you instead want to enrol multiple users from the one organisation, and benefit from regular reporting back on staff progress.

Information about sharing, licensing, copyright etc for all our eLearning modules can be found in our Terms of Service.  For other questions about pricing or the technology used, please see our FAQs about our eLearning modules.
